Hypertension Symptoms

Hypertension typically shows no symptoms, and is too often detected only after serious damage has been caused to vital organs such as the heart and arteries.

However, severe hypertension is sometimes accompanied by direct symptoms such as:

  • Severe headaches
  • Fatigue or confusion
  • Sleeping disorders
  • Vision problems
  • Chest pain
  • Difficult breathing
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Blood in the urine

Uncontrolled high blood is directly linked to increased risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and eyes problems. These risks may result from the damage that hypertension causes to the arteries and heart (the cardio-vascular system).
