RESPeRATE - A non-drug treatment for high blood pressure
Lifestyle changes, though highly recommended for the treatment of hypertension, are often difficult to follow consistently. RESPeRATE is new a device, which offers an easier, non-drug therapy for high blood pressure.
Clinical studies have shown, that paced, effortless breathing can lower blood pressure significantly. Slowing your breathing to less than 10 breaths a minute, with prolonged exhalations in between, relaxes the muscles surrounding constricted blood vessels, and can lower blood pressure. RESPeRATE is indicated for adjunctive treatment of hypertension by the FDA.
How does it work?
The device has a belt-like breathing sensor, which is placed on the chest or abdomen. The sensor is connected to a small control box which contains a microprocessor that analyzes your breathing pattern and then creates a personalized melody composed of two distinct inhale and exhale tones. By synchronizing your breathing to these tones, it leads you to slow down your breathing, until you reach the therapeutic zone of less than 10 breaths per minute.
